The difficult year may have come to an end; however, the pandemic clearly emphasized the disproportionate effect public health crises have on low-wealth and communities of color due to the widening racial gap in health and economic disparities. As we are all hopeful for 2021 to bring more opportunities and growth, now, more than ever, is the time for community organizations to advocate for policies and resources to support communities who have been left out of the economic mainstream.
That's why we're starting our Advocacy Bootcamp Webinar Series. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn from local, state, and national leaders to gain the tools and confidence they need to effectively advocate and engage policy makers at all levels. The series will conclude with focusing on three advocacy topics, providing organizations immediate action steps to take.
In this session:
SCACED President and CEO, Bernie Mazyck will kick off the training discussing the vital role community organizations have in advocating for equitable policies to ensure all communities have the opportunity to thrive and build wealth. Sue Berkowitz, Director of SC Appleseed Legal Justice Center will introduce attendees to the basics of advocacy. Topics include knowing the difference between lobbying and advocacy; explaining the legislative process; and how organizations can get their board to support advocacy.
